Step 1: Connect your loans
Obtaining your MyStudentData file
- Sign into your studentaid.gov account
- Select “View Details” in the “My Aid” section
- Select “Download My Aid Data” to download your MyStudentData file.
Obtaining your loan servicer statement or loan verification statement
- Sign into your student loan servicer account (e.g. Nelnet, Naviant, MOHELA, Fedloan, etc.)
- Download a copy of your monthly statement. If a monthly statement is unavailable due to the ongoing period of federal student loan forbearance, a loan verification statement will also suffice.
The exact steps for downloading a statement will vary by servicer, but be sure the statement you download includes your name, full account number, servicer name, and payment address.
Connecting your loan account
- Sign into your Candidly account
- From your dashboard, click “Menu” > select “Roll Up”
- Select “Add Loans”
- Select “Upload Loan Information
- Follow the prompts to upload your MyStudentData file
Step 2: Verify your loans
After connecting your loans, you may need to take an additional step to verify your loan account. If you need to verify your loans, you’ll be prompted to verify your loan immediately after you complete the loan connection process. Your Candidly dashboard and Roll Up will also display an alert banner message prompting you to verify your loans.
- Select “Verify” or “Verify now” from one of these prompts.
- Follow the prompts to upload a copy of your loan statement or loan verification document (downloaded from your loan servicer)
- Candidly will review your loan statement to complete your loan account verification. If there are any issues with your verification, we’ll reach out to help you take the next steps
You can check the connection and verification status of your loan accounts at any time by reviewing your accounts through Roll Up. The icon next to your loan servicer’s logo indicates whether your loan account is verified, unverified, or if the verification is pending or incomplete.
